5-Amino-1MQ
5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium (5-Amino-1MQ) is a cell-permeable small molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that catalyzes the N-methylation of nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as the methyl donor. NNMT is expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and skeletal muscle and has been studied for its role in regulating the cellular NAD⁺ precursor pool and one-carbon metabolism. Preclinical research has used 5-Amino-1MQ to investigate NNMT's contributions to adipocyte differentiation, lipid metabolism gene expression, and SAM-dependent methylation reactions in cell-based models.
